Magnetic or Not Sorting Game for Kids
Investigate which large everyday objects are attracted to a magnet. Children predict first, test with an adult and sort their discoveries into two groups. Different metal objects can behave differently, so use the results to start a conversation rather than assuming that every metal will be magnetic.
Let’s make it happen
- An adult chooses a large, fully encased magnet and safe large objects; never use loose strong magnets.
- Draw two groups: attracted and not attracted.
- Predict and test one object at a time under direct supervision.
- Record results and put the magnet away securely afterwards.
Grown-up note: Supervise play, check materials for age suitability and keep small parts away from younger children. Adapt the activity to your child’s abilities.
